Nelson A. Miles and the Twilight of the Frontier Army
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Nebraska Pr (May, 1993)
Author: Robert Wooster
Average review score:

Complete Story of the Last Great CW and Frontier General
When I read this book, I really wanted to focus just on Miles and his contributions to the Indian Frontier since he virtually closed it out. I learned far more about Miles, a highly skilled and brave field commander who rose all the way to command of the Army by the Spanish American War, than I expected. I was aware of his tremendous ego but I learned more about his political intrigues, compulsion for rank, rivalries with other officers and attraction to crowds and newspapermen. Wooster takes you rather quickly through Miles' youth and astounding CW achievements and spends a good portion on Miles and the Indian Frontier. He outlines quite in impressive detail Miles constant maneuvering for command and reforms, his controversies with Generals and Presidents including Teddy Roosevelt. Miles was involved in the Sioux campaigns, Sitting Bull, Grey Beard, Cheyenne, Nez Perce and Geronimo and the Spanish American War. After reading the book you will have a mixed feel for Miles. Did he want to be in the midst of the action just to participate in an intense challenge or was it always to as a platform to achieve rank? His politics later in life were anti-Catholic and anti-immigrant but he later worked to get the Indians a better deal and he preferred the emancipation of the Philippines after the Spanish American War. He is an important read, he was even in over all command but not the field officer at Wounded Knee. Miles saw many of the most famous Chiefs at their peak and literally escorted them to their final homes, the reservations. Wooster writes an incredibly objective book on a person who contributed tremendously to our history from 1860 to 1910.

Great translation in a comfortable font size
I LOVE this translation of the Bible! Overall, I believe the New King James Version is the best choice for today. It retains much of the beauty of the KJV while providing updates of archaic words which have either changed their meaning or fallen out of use altogether. It also has made some improvements of sentence structure (where appropriate), but, by and large, it retains the general flow of the KJV. As much as I love the KJV it is getting more and more difficult to retain it in public worship and Bible studies; there is just too much resistence to the older (albeit more beautiful) English.

Both the KJV and NKJV versions are decended from the Byzantine text family, that great line that has been in the Church's possession throughout most of her history. This family of texts was the basis for the protestant reformation and has been the version read by most Christians of the last 500 years since the invention of the printing press and large scale distribution of Bibles. More and more, scholars are coming to appreciate this line of texts over the recently discoved texts that form the basis for most modern versions (NIV, NASB, NLT, etc.)

The Nelson Bible provides requisite quality in this edition. The font size is large and comfortably readable without being outraegeously large. Great for over 40 eyes or someone who just likes a larger font. The center column references are good and useful (I just wish they left our the references to the critical text).

Highly recommended! I don't believe you will be disappointed with the Bible in any way.

The best features
This is my favorite day to day reading / studying bible. It offers translation helps in the middle. If a word is not used or has changed in meaning, it puts it there. If a more litteral translation is helpful, it also puts that there. It's not bogged down with commentaries, which can lead us astray. Its reasonably priced, so when you wear it out (I hope you read the bible that much) its easy to replace. If I can help furthur ask at powerofgrace.org.

The Nelson contemporary English dictionary

The Nelson Contemporary English Dictionary
This wonderful dictionary was published many years ago. I had two copies of it. Unfortunately, over time, I lost them. My native language is not English. I am grateful to the publisher and author/compiler for this dictionary as it immensely helped me building my vocabulary. The presentation of entries was very facilitating and the pronunciation for each entry was given in a unique way that the book definitely did help the reader learn the proper pronunciation. In my strong opinion, this book should never become out of print. It will have its use generation after generation.

Nelson DeMille: Three Complete Novels: Word of Honor, Cathedral, By the Rivers of Babylon

Nelson DeMille is one of the very best
I read all three of these novels, for the first time, quite a while ago. The plots were so well planned and his ability to convey actions, thoughts, etc., etc. is outstanding. He is one of those authors that REALLY can make you 'live' the story. He has 'depth' in his writing. I believe these 'older' novels are three of his very best. I have read these novels twice and plan to read them again after an interval of a couple of years. I can't imagine anyone regretting buying this book! If you only like the Quick Reads, these are not for you. These novels, you 'soak in' and wish for them to go on and on and on.

Nelson in Love: An Adam Joshua Valentine's Day Story

Fantastic book
I should admit at the start that my mother wrote this book, and that I am biased toward her work. This is the seventh book in the Adam Joshua series, and one of my favorites. This book, and the series, details the life of my sister and I, plus a variety of other characters. Despite the book being named "Nelson in Love," (Nelson is actually Scott, my best friend for the past 13 years) the book is actually about my first true love. At the time Mom was writing the book, I thought it was romantic that my love was being immortalized in print. After all the years of suffering through her publicizing my periods of thinking I was Superman and running around in a cape, and my fear of monsters, and even my fights with my sister, I was finally reaping the rewards. That lasted right up until the moment we broke up. By then the book was already at press, and it was too late to change the girl's name. Some day my children (her grandchildren) will ask who Heidi was. My mother's personal dedica

Very good for reading and memorizing
I use this Bible for my daily reading and memorizing of verses; I highly enjoy it because it is small yet full of good features (the margin helps are fairly extensive). I highly recomend this Bible if you are seeking a good KJV Bible for personal reading.
